Everyone keeps their part secret to the end (very important) To make sure everyones pieces are fully unique we try and make sure not to show anything in the group chat until the project due date. (You can send images and questions to Dimension X Toys if you have questions, but do not reveal progress shots in the group chat)
You can use and 3d software to come up with a final 3d model we have guys that use Tinkercad, Meshmixer, nomad, blender, zbrush, sculptris, maya anything that can generate a .STL or .OBJ file
File Size- Please make sure your file has been decimated usually no more that 300k polygon count with a file size no more that 50mb is desirable.
Make sure your file is watertight, especially after merging or decimating your mesh may have holes in it. To save time with those do the final file preparation please use Meshmixer to make sure your file is watertight. In meshmixer go to Analysis>Inspector tool and fill any holes that appear.

How to make your mesh water tight for 3d printing
Some Slicers such as Lychee do offer the ability to repair and fill some holes, but I haven't found anything that does a better job than meshmixer and its free.
Decimation (reducing file size)
This is a great way to make your file much more manageable for 3d printing. In general you would do this after you've combined all your meshes. There is a function in Nomad sculpt that works really well for this, you can also do it in Meshmixer.
